Power without compromise
On-Road / Off-Road ability
Some 4-wheel drives look the part, but then fall apart when things get tough. Not Pajero. It was forged in the heat of the Sahara desert, in over 10 years of the punishing Paris–Dakar rally.
It wasn’t easy. But it was worth it; no other competitor has ever matched our record of wins. And what we learnt here goes into the Pajero you drive today. For sporting and technical achievement, it’s miles ahead.
With its smooth, effortless power, its monocoque body for strength and rigidity, ands its superior interior specification the Pajero makes open road driving a breeze. And then with a casual shift of the Super Select 4WD lever, and the superbly refined Mitsubishi All Terrain Technology (MATT), its equally at home with the tests and travails of the toughest terrain.
Super Select 4WD
Super Select 4WD allows drivers to move from 2H to 4H ‘on the fly’. Drive to the front wheels occurs through a viscous coupling unit (VCU) in the centre differential. 4HLc is a low ratio option that gives the driver the ability to produce higher revs at lower speeds, this mode can only be selected when the vehicle is completely stationary.
5-Speed automatic with INVECS II ‘Smart Logic”
The INVECS II ‘Smart Logic’ transmission system works through the on-board computer that learns and adapts to each driver’s preference by monitoring engine and foot-braking data. The computer logic then adapts the gearshift timing to suit the drivers style, providing smooth, effortless acceleration and a more predictable ride.
Mitsubishi All Terrain Technology (MATT)
All Pajero models are equipped with Mitsubishi’s rally developed MATT (Mitsubishi All Terrain Technology).MATT is an integrated package of systems centred on the on-board computer with sensors that monitor the constant change in your vehicle’s wheel speeds, lateral and longitudinal G forces and yaw rates. Processing this data it then matches it to the driver’s intention via the steering wheel and throttle sensors to provide optimum driving performance and driver confidence.
Mitsubishi All Terrain Technology includes:
- Active Stability Control (ASC)
- Active Traction Control (ATC)
- Engine Brake Assist Control (EBAC)
- Super Select II
- Multi-Mode-Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
- Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
- Hill Hold Assist
- Mitsubishi Body Optimised Suspension
- Hill Hold Assist
Hill Hold Assist
Hill Hold Assist is a feature of all automatic models. Operating in second gear, it enables you to stop on a steep slope without the risk of your Pajero rolling backwards or stalling.
Active Traction Control (ATC) with Engine Brake Assist (EBAC)
ATC is an intelligent system that automatically controls engine output so that driving wheels are prevented from spinning. When it senses loss of traction in an independent wheel it automatically applies braking force to that wheel while sending extra power to other wheels with traction to keep you moving. ATC enables you to keep traction on the most slippery or rugged of surfaces.
Particularly invaluable when stepping down steep descents, EBAC provides you with engine braking without the loss of traction due to slipping wheels. The system works automatically in 4WD Low Range mode.
Multi-Mode Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
Pajero’s intelligent 4 channel, 4-sensor braking system monitors different wheel speed and activates brakes to individual wheels when required. It allows you to keep manoeuvrability under heavy braking and slippery road conditions.
EBD detects when you are carrying passengers or heavier loads and automatically increases rear-braking force on demand, safely reducing your stopping distance.
Active Stability Control (ASC)
Active Stability Control provides the driver with greater control in tough cornering situations, reducing the chance of under-steer or over-steer by adjusting engine power and applying the brakes independently on each wheel. The result – a tighter, safer driving line.
The Pajero’s inherently strong monocoque body lowers the centre of gravity while at the same time increasing ground clearance. This allows both confident high-speed cornering and off-road stability. The adoption of the monocoque body also enabled the use of coil springs in the independent multi-link suspension increasing the front and rear wheel travel and enhancing off-road ability and on-road comfort.
Technology Designed To Save Lives
A combination of active and passive safety systems help Pajero achieve a 5 Star ANCAP safety crash rating.
RISE Monocoque Body
Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) monocoque body system with integrated chassis is a highly rigid one-piece shell. The super-strength cabin acts as a safety cage. In the event of an accident, impact-absorbing crushable zones, a lower centre of gravity and reinforced critical points combine to deliver superior safety performance. The RISE body also contributes to the renowned handling and off-road performance that the Pajero has become famous for.
Driver and passenger SRS airbags on all models provide essential protection in the event of a frontal collision. Standard on the Pajero range, side and curtain airbags enhance the driver’s protection in the event of a side-on collision.
The Pajero’s superior visibility concept is a combination of different features that give you greater visibility of your driving surroundings while also enhancing your own visibility on the road.
Centrally Mounted Spare Wheel
The visibility concept incorporates a centrally mounted spare wheel in a lowered position to provided greater rearward visibility. This, combined with reversing sensors on all models, gives you greater confidence when reversing.
Side Indicator Lights
Integrated turn indicators on the large exterior rear-view mirrors (Exceed only) provide greater visibility and clear indications to other road users of your intentions.
High Intensity Discharge Headlamps
The High Intensity Disharge Headlamps (Exceed only) provide optimal night-time visibility with a wider view and brighter more daytime-type illumination. Automatic headlamp levelling and headlamp washers prevent dazzling other drivers on the road and ensure maximum visibility is maintained.
The Pajero Exceed is the top-of-the-range model, offering a level of comfort, power, safety features and appointments that will make you the envy of your peers.
As standard, the Exceed now comes with even more creature comforts. It still has the 7" touch screen audio system reversing camera, premium 12-speaker, 860 watt stereo system; unique alloy 18” wheels, headlamp washers, driver and passenger power heated seats and separate rear air conditioning. But now it also has these great additions; New front bumper grill and fog lamp bezel, fog lights and DRL's, auto high beam headlights, improved NVH for a quieter ride and electric sunroof.
It includes a host of 5 Star ANCAP features such 6 airbags, SmartBrake and premium security sensor alarm with siren.
The Exceed comes with the comfort of leather seats and trim. Whether you live in the city or country whether you drive on-road or off-road, the Exceed provides a level of 4WD performance and specification that you would find hard to exceed.

*DISCLAIMER: The fuel economy figure gives you an indication of the fuel consumption based on international rolling road test-lab drive cycle testing - UN ECE R101 (European NEDC), ADR (Australia), and JC08 (Japan). These tests are designed to test fuel consumption in lab conditions to make comparisons easier. Actual fuel economy will depend on a wide range of factors including your driving style and habits, speed and distance travelled, vehicle load, tyre pressure and level of maintenance
