More Economy, Less Environmental Impact
Choose from three engine options including 2.0L petrol, 2.4L petrol & 2.3L diesel. All designed and built to produce outstanding power and economy.
These savings are achieved through integrated application of aerodynamics above and below the vehicle, technology in all 3 engine options, reduced weight and the Eco Drive Support System (a new technology that promotes economical driving).
The end result is a very fuel efficient SUV with seven seats, as well as low emissions.
Space For More
7 Seats are now standard throughout the new Outlander range.
Through the use of clever, European-styled design the Outlander offers plenty of room for all occupants and their luggage.
Better engines, including diesel
Power, economy and efficiency are the principles behind the three new engines. Choose from Smart MIVEC 2.0L or 2.4L petrol engines, or the new 2.3L diesel.
Higher efficiency, lower emissions
Every aspect of the new Outlander has been designed to improve economy and reduce emissions. Thanks to the efficient use of fuel and oxygen, smoother airflow and lighter materials, Outlander is much kinder on the earth’s resources and yours.
More refined inside
Outlander truly earned the title of the more civilised SUV. It's just a nice place to be. Comfort, ergonomics, intuitive instrument layout and elegant design come together seamlessly in the cabin.
Safer throughout the range
New Outlander is designed to exceed ANCAP 5 Star safety rating requirements, thanks to a host of integrated active and passive safety features. The VRX models takes safety a step further with new e-Assist features.
New technology, smarter thinking
Outside, inside and under the hood, new Outlander boasts advanced thinking to enhance safety, economy, and of course the driving experience.
More Economy, Less Environmental Impact
Fuel savings are achieved through integrated application of aerodynamics above and below the vehicle, technology in all 3 engine options, reduced weight and the Eco Drive Support System (a new technology that promotes economical driving)
*DISCLAIMER: The fuel economy figure gives you an indication of the fuel consumption based on international rolling road test-lab drive cycle testing - UN ECE R101 (European NEDC), ADR (Australia), and JC08 (Japan). These tests are designed to test fuel consumption in lab conditions to make comparisons easier. Actual fuel economy will depend on a wide range of factors including your driving style and habits, speed and distance travelled, vehicle load, tyre pressure and level of maintenance.
Smart MIVEC Petrol Engines
Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control, or MIVEC, is one of our many innovations born from our long racing heritage. It draws air smoothly into the cylinders in a way that minimises loss of energy. Of course, you’re not going to take the new Outlander onto a racetrack, but on the road, MIVEC increases efficiency. That means great economy. Just look at the numbers.
Outlander is also available with a 2.3L Diesel engine option. It’s one very advanced diesel engine too. On the technical side, this engine helps achieve low compression ratios, which optimise fuel economy and reduce emissions. On the practical side, this means the perfect balance between performance with a full load, economy, emissions and noise reductions. Naturally, it’s Euro 5-compliant.
Aerodynamic Across Every Surface
First, we used computer modelling to perfect Outlander’s aerodynamics. Then we used scale models and finally the full size vehicle to create a shape where the eye moves as easily across the bodywork as the oncoming air. The coefficient of drag is just 0.33. As with so many aspects of new Outlander, the end result is greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
Lighter body, higher efficiency
Light materials are used to save weight. Improving impact resistance at the same time is somewhat trickier. The Outlander achieves both. High-tensile steel plates throughout the body, combined with lighter suspension and brakes have produced a weight saving of 100kg. This new body is also safer than the previous model, which was already reassuringly safe.
Eco Mode Control
This is part of a complete system of vehicle efficiency that wrings out fuel savings in many areas. Eco Mode makes the transmission shift up sooner and down later, while reducing the sensitivity of the accelerator pedal. It also optimises other aspects of the vehicle.
Optimised engine mapping promotes fuel-efficient and economical driving.
Comfort is maintained, but output is reduced to lessen the load created by the air conditioning.
While driving, this can be automatically switched to Four Wheel Drive Eco Mode if the System senses that fuel savings can be made.
ECO Drive Support System Display
The driver is presented with two displays, which give real-time feedback on how efficient the driving style is, or could be.
- Eco Drive Assist shows the current status of how economically you are driving. This is shown in a simple bar graph.
- Eco Score uses information from Eco Drive Assist to rate and help you improve your environmentally-friendly driving skills. This appears as a plant with five leaves. As your driving becomes more efficient, you’ll see more leaves light up.
The Mitsubishi Outlander has been built to exceed 5 Star ANCAP requirements. So you’ll find Mitsubishi’s RISE body construction, ABS, Active Stability Control, Active Traction Control, Hill Start Assist and 7 airbags across the range.
Then, there are the advanced safety features such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Auto High Beam found on XLS & VRX models, Blind Spot Warning / Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (4WD XLS & VRX). Whichever model you select, new Outlander is a very safe choice indeed.
7 SRS Airbags
Whichever angle an impact is encountered, there’s an airbag to counter its effects. There are front airbags for driver and passenger, driver’s knee airbag, plus side and curtain airbags.
Rise. Keeping everyone safe
All Mitsubishi vehicles feature Realise Impact Safety Revolution body and design, or RISE. In the new Outlander, it’s the best expression ever of this safety design principle. RISE offers increased safety in a collision by absorbing impact in some areas and redirecting it away from others. The front fenders are even shaped to keep pedestrians safer
Electronic Control Four Wheel Drive System
Outlander keeps the driver constantly aware of what’s happening on the road. But nothing pays closer attention to the conditions than Outlander itself. Constant monitoring of the vehicle’s behaviour is fed back through the traction systems to give the driver better control, safety and efficiency through four systems.
Lane Departure Warning (XLS & VRX)
Camera monitors the white lines and alerts the driver if they are drifting out of their lane.
Auto High Beam (XLS & VRX)
Sensors detect if there are no vehicles in front or approaching and automatically turns on high beam headlights.
Blind Spot Warning / Lane Change Assist (4WD XLS & VRX)
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (4WD XLS & VRX)
Sensors vehicles approaching from the sides when reversing out of car parks
Hill Start Assist (HSA)
This technology makes it easier to start off a steep uphill slope by preventing the vehicle from rolling backwards. It maintains the brake force for two seconds while you move your foot from the brake to the accelerator.
Active Traction Control (ATC)
Helps you maintain traction on the most slippery or rugged surfaces. This intelligent system automatically controls the engine output, so driving wheels are prevented from spinning. Sensing loss of traction in an independent wheel, it applies braking force to that wheel and sends extra power and torque to other wheels with traction control.
Active Stability Control
Maintains stability and control when cornering, by automatically recognising under-steer and over-steer. It applies bakes to the appropriate wheels to keep you online through corners.
Here’s another innovative feature that’s there just in case. If you unintentionally hit your accelerator pedal as well as your brake in an emergency situation, the new SmartBrake system sports the error, cancels out the message from the gas pedal and put full concentrating on your braking.
Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
This technology reduces stopping distance by detecting passengers or heavier loads and automatically increases rear-braking force.
Multi-Mode Anti Lock Braking System (ABS)
This allows you to manoeuvre around objects under heavy braking conditions. Outlander’s intelligent 4-channel, 4-sensor braking system works in conjunction with the drive mode to monitor different wheel speeds and activate brakes to individual wheels when required to deliver superior control.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
Now, when the vehicle front alters its speed, so does your cruise control. A radar mounted in the grille matches Outlander’s cruise control speed to whatever you’re following with appropriate adjustments of brake and accelerator.
Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM)
FCM now uses radar and a camera to identify obstructions and pedestrian recognition and warn of a potential collision. If the risk remains, this system applies the brakes to mitigate a collision.

The Outlander cabin is a very welcoming place to be. From within the refined space, there’s almost no hint of the off-road ability at your command. You won’t hear it either, thanks to the exceptional sound proofing. Thick windows are and sound proofing materials make for a very calming drive. Every surface, from seat to roof uses smart materials for a premium finish.
Driver comfort is ensured with a wrap around dash, intuitive instrument clustering and power steering with tilt and telescopic wheel. Passenger are catered to with dual zone air conditioning across the range and can enjoy music on the Smartphone Link Display.
This system integrates communication, music and map apps from your compatible Smartphone. Simply click in the USB cable and phone calls, navigation, music and messages are right there on the built-in display screen. Voice command lets you keep your focus on the road, and maps are automatically updated from your phone. You can also play music and make calls via Bluetooth.
The Outlander adapts to any situation you might encounter. There’s increased cargo space, which is easily accessed by the key fob-operated power tailgate on VRX models. The seats fold flat for even more space and when you need to fit in more passengers, the third row of seats fold out of the floor. They’re real seats too, every bit as comfortable as the second row.
Serious Cargo Space
Outlander offers a cavernous, long cargo area of 1685mm. The full size spare wheel is kept under the vehicle so it doesn’t intrude on your storage space. All models have a completely flat floor, which is ideal for sliding big awkward heavy things in or out.
Space and versatility for all occupants
Whatever combination of passengers and luggage you need to carry, the Outlander will accommodate. If, for example, you need to use the 2nd row of seats and increase your cargo area, the entire second row of seats will slide obligingly forwards by 250mm.
Very comfortable third row seating
When you need to carry people, the third row seats on all models are perfect. They’re easy to access; you simply tilt the second row forwards. They’re also very comfortable, with two positions for the seat back. If you need more legroom, you slide the second row forwards. If you need cargo space they fold right down to the floor.
Power tailgate for easy access on the VRX models
If you’ve got your arms full or any of the other hundred reasons why you might not be able to open the tailgate by hand, just press a button on the key fob and it automatically opens for you.
Truly connected with SDA
Every model features the new Smartphone Link Display Audio (SDA). This system integrates communication, music and map apps from your compatible Smartphone.
Simply click in the USB cable and phone calls, navigation, music and messages are right there on the built-in display screen. Voice command lets you keep your focus on the road, and maps are automatically updated from your phone. You can also play music and make calls via Bluetooth™
